Occupational health and safety

Welcome to Occupational Health and Safety

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) plays a vital role in our society and is all about the making sure that the safety, health, and welfare of people at work is looked after. All companies that employ 20 or more employees need to appoint an OHS officer.

The goals of OHS programs are to create a safe and healthy work environment, as well as protect co-workers, family members, employers, customers, and anyone who might be affected by the workplace environment. OHS officer are essential for the happy and healthy function of a business and are in high demand from employers.

You do not need to study an accredited course if you want to be the OHS representative in an office, or the OHS Co-ordinator.  You need to have the knowledge and skills to fill these roles competently.  These positions in a company are usually filled by someone who has a full time role already, and takes this on as additional responsibilities.  If you have this on your CV you will have a definite edge over anyone applying who cannot help in this regard in the office.

Once you have completed these courses you may decide you want a career in Occupational Health and Safety, which is a highly specialised industry.  Doing these courses will give you everything you need to decide whether an OHS career is right for you.
