ICB Portfolio of Evidence, otherwise known as a PoE, is the body of evidence that you have to hand to the ICB for marking. This is the assessments, activities and exam that ICB will assess to see whether or not you have passed a particular subject.
What is an ICB Portfolio of Evidence (PoE)?
A Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) is a folder that contains a collection of work that you have completed, the final piece of which is the exam. It contains both home based work that you do and bring with the final exam, and the exam you have answered is the final document that you add to the file and hand to the examiner when you are done.
It is then marked and you are informed whether you gained enough marks to pass the subject.
Your home based work counts for 30% of your final mark, and 70% of the marks come from your final exam.
When do I get my PoE?
You will receive your PoE once you have registered for an exam. It usually arrives 3 to 4 weeks after you have registered.
The ICB Portfolio of Evidence for every subjects is different as it relates specifically to the subject being written in the final exam. You will receive one ICB PoE for every subject that you register for in a sitting.
What do I do with my PoE?
You need to complete your ICB Portfolio of Evidence at home, and then take it with you when you go to write your final exam.
When you have finished writing the paper you put it inside the folder with all the work you completed at home and hand it in. Remember that the work you do at home counts for 30% of your final mark, so this is a great way to earn extra marks before you even get to the exam centre.
What do I do with my POE?
You will receive your PoE a few weeks after your register to write your exams. The first thing to do is to check all the information in the pack you are sent is correct. If there is a mistake you need to let your college and the ICB know immediately so it can be rectified by the time you need to write.
The second thing to do is to read through the whole portfolio of evidence and fill in information where you are asked to.
You will be asked to do activities, assessments and assignments. All of these are put inside the folder to be taken to the exam centre when you write. Once you have completed writing the exam you put the answer sheet inside the folder, and hand the entire folder to the examiner.
A registered ICB assessor will then go through all this work, and your exam, and decide whether you have enough knowledge in a particular subject to pass.
How do I make sure I have enough time to complete my PoE?
The first thing to do is to make sure that you book and pay for your ICB exam as early as possible. They will send you the PoE approximately 3 to 4 weeks later, so the earlier you book and pay the longer you will have to work through the ICB Portfolio of Evidence.
We also advise that you start on the portfolio exercises as early as possible so that you have enough time to complete everything properly. These count 30% towards your final mark so they are very important.
Remember that you will receive one PoE for every exam you are going to write, so if you register for more than one subject you need to put the maximum amount of time and effort in so that you do not run out of time. You do need to work through it carefully and thoroughly though, so don’t rush anything. 30% does not sound like alot, but it can mean the difference between a pass and a fail. Or a pass and a distinction!
Do I get a PoE for each subject?
Yes, you will get a different PoE for every single subject you write an exam for with the ICB. Each of them is different, and will give you exercises, activities and assignments on the subject matter you are studying.
You will only receive the PoE once you have registered for an exam, as the ICB wants to make sure you do not have an unlimited amount of time to do all the work in the Portfolio of Evidence.
Exactly what’s inside my PoE?
You will find three things inside your ICB PoE. A portfolio administrative guide, the ICB tests and assignments and your answer books.
The ICB portfolio administrative is very important as it guides you through your ICB subject. It will tell you what you need to do through your studies, and explains how to fill in your PoE. It contains many forms that you need to complete. Work through this portfolio step by step and do all the instructions listed.
The ICB tests and assignments count 30% towards your final mark, so make sure that you take care when doing these. You will find 3 assignments, and 2 tests that will make sure you understand everything in the subject that you need for the final exam.
You will also find blank answer books which is where you write the answers to your tests and assignments.
Why is my ICB PoE so important?
There are many reasons why the ICB portfolio of evidence is so important.
Firstly it has been designed to efficiently take you through all the key concepts you need to pass the final exam. It makes sure your understanding is deep and comprehensive, and ensures that you truly have the right skills to do the job when you are employed.
Also, the PoE counts for your final mark. So take it seriously, and do the assessments and tests as carefully and correctly as you can!
